Who is Eligible to Apply for a Marriage License?

In the State of Hawaii there are no state residence or U.S. citizenship requirements. If you reside outside the United states, bring your Passport when applying for your license. Blood tests are not required.

Proof of age is required. A certified copy of a birth certificate must be presented for anyone 18 years of age or under.

A valid photo I.D. or driver’s license may be presented for anyone 19 years of age or over.

How to Apply for a Marriage License

The couple must appear together in person before a marriage license agent to apply for a marriage license, the cost is $65.00, payable in cash only.

The prospective bride and groom must prepare an official application and file the application in person with the marriage license agent. Applications are provided by the marriage license agent. Upon approval, a marriage license is issued at the time the application is made. Don’t forget to bring it with you on your wedding day. The marriage license is valid throughout the State of Hawaii for 30 days from the date issued.

The license is signed directly following the ceremony, and is mailed into the state by the officiate within 3 days. A certified copy of the marriage certificate is mailed to you approximately 120 days after receipt by the State.

Commitment and Vow Renewal Ceremonies do not require a license.

We usually make your appointment to get your marriage license for the morning after you arrive so it does not interfere with any other activities. If you would like to have it at a specific time and date just let us know. We always book your appointment with the licensing agent that is closest to where you are staying which is usually within a 10 minute drive. We will provide you with all of the information of your agent, address, phone number, etc., along with complete directions from your hotel when we send you your final itinerary. Usually a month to 6 weeks prior to your wedding date.
